Evidence for Centrifugal Barrier in X-ray Pulsar GRO J1744-28

چکیده
We present further observational evidence of the effects of a centrifugal barrier in GRO J1744-28, based on continued monitoring of the source with RXTE.

Evidence for “Propeller” Effects In X-ray Pulsars GX 1+4 And GRO J1744-28
We present observational evidence for “propeller” effects in two X–ray pulsars, GX 1+4 and GRO J1744–28. Both sources were monitored regularly by the Rossi X–ray Timing Explorer (RXTE) throughout a decaying period in the X–ray brightness. Quite remarkably, strong X–ray pulsation became unmeasurable when total X–ray flux had dropped below a certain threshold. Such a phenomenon is a clear indicat...
متن کاملA Chandra observation of GRO J1744–28: the bursting pulsar in quiescence
We present a Chandra/ACIS-I observation of GRO J1744–28. We detected a source at a position of R.A = 17 44 33.09 and Dec. = –28 44 27.0 (J2000.0; with a 1σ error of ∼0.8 arcseconds), consistent with both ROSAT and interplanetary network localizations of GRO J1744–28 when it was in outburst. This makes it likely that we have detected the quiescent X-ray counterpart of GRO J1744– 28. Our Chandra ...
متن کاملHard X-Ray Spectroscopy and Pulsar Phase Analysis of the Bursting X-Ray Pulsar GRO J1744{28 with OSSE
We report OSSE observations of the bursting X-ray pulsar GRO J1744{28 made in December 1995 and January 1996 at hard X-ray energies > 35 keV. The pulse pro le of the persistent (i.e. non-bursting) pulsar emission is t with a sinusoid in the energy range 35{90 keV. Residuals reveal a second harmonic amplitude of 3:0 0:5% of the fundamental. The distribution of time intervals between bursts measu...
متن کاملPost-Burst Quasi-Periodic Oscillations from GRO J1744−28 and from the Rapid Burster
The repetitive X-ray bursts from the accretion-powered pulsar GRO J1744−28 show similarities to the type II X-ray bursts from the Rapid Burster. Several authors (notably Lewin et al.) have suggested that the bursts from GRO J1744−28 are type II bursts (which arise from the sudden release of gravitational potential energy). In this paper, we present another similarity between these sources. Ross...
متن کاملSmc X-1 as an Intermediate-stage Flaring X-ray Pulsar
We present Rossi X-ray Timing Explorer observations of the X-ray pulsar SMC X-1. The source is highly variable on short time scales (< 1 h), exhibiting apparent X-ray flares occupying a significant fraction (∼3 %) of the total observing time, with a recurrence time of ∼100 s. The flares seem to occur over all binary orbital phases, and correlate with the overall variability in the light curve. ...
